Rep. Zellers focus on the jobs and the economy

As part of his efforts to restore common sense to Saint Paul, Representative Zellers is joining Republican legislative colleagues and Governor Pawlenty in visiting communities around the state to listen to business owners. The Jobs Tour brings together elected officials, businesspeople, and residents to discuss the challenges of the current economy and the ways Minnesota government can help jumpstart business development and job growth.

“Our state possesses a high quality of life and is a recognized economic leader. But Minnesotans are also subject to the 8th highest tax burden in the country and our business climate rates in the bottom ten. Minnesota is at risk of losing our leading economy by harmful tax proposals and a failure to incentivize business investment and growth,” said Zellers.

The message at each stop on the Jobs Tour has been loud and clear: Do not raise taxes, do not eliminate credits like the home mortgage interest deduction, and do not burden businesses with excessive and redundant regulation. Businesses and residents voiced the need of incentives for growth and job creation, relief from taxes and regulation, and a freeing of market forces to enhance Minnesota’s competitiveness in a global economy.

Zellers points to the value of the Jobs Tour as a result of its common sense approach. “The DFL politicians in Saint Paul are holding task forces, commissions, and panels where they attempt to address problems by talking with themselves. We’re going out to our communities to listen, collaborate, and translate the needs of real Minnesotans into real solutions,” said Zellers.

By really listening to their needs and acting on their input, we can foster a business climate that fully utilizes all of our assets,” said Zellers.
